A strong voice for NI Veterans

Military and Police Support of West Tyrone (MAPS)

MAPS was formed in 2011 as an ex services charity run by those themselves served their community during the time commonly known as ‘The Troubles’ under Operation Banner. We have the vital experience, skills and empathy needed to look after the welfare, support and sign-posting needs of former colleagues.

Services Provided

The Duchess of Abercorn’s Veterans’ Garden Project is all about enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Baronscourt Estate and encouraging people to grow delicious fruit and vegetables in a dedicated garden built from scratch by volunteers as part of horticultural therapy.

Gardening is fantastic for combatting stress, getting exercise, socialising and eating great food you have grown yourself.

There is a purpose-built cabin with kitchen facilities and comfortable seating to use as a base, to enjoy some lunch, a cup of tea or retreat for shelter if the weather turns!

Welfare and Advice

After a confidential in house initial consultation we then have full use of a trusted welfare adviser, either in the MAPS office or in your home

For those more complicated issues we may refer a client to our trusted professional partners. Issues can range from dealing with arduous daily issues to providing advice on benefits, housing, pensions, PIP assessments etc.

MAPS provides a range of other services, including respite, complementary therapies and befriending support. For more information you can visit their website: www.mapswesttyrone.org.uk
