Somme 110; Honouring the Past, Helping Today

To mark the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, the Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner’s Office is proud to organise Somme 110; a six-day charity walk spanning all six counties of Northern Ireland. This commemorative journey brings together remembrance and action, paying tribute to those who served while supporting vital services that save lives today.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Somme Association and the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland. The Somme Association plays a crucial role in preserving the legacy of one of the most significant battles of the First World War, including maintaining the Ulster Memorial Tower and Thiepval Wood and supporting its museum in Newtownards. Their work ensures that future generations continue to understand the scale, sacrifice, and historical importance of the Somme.

At the same time, Air Ambulance Northern Ireland delivers a life-saving helicopter emergency medical service, tasked on average twice every day. Able to be airborne within minutes, their highly skilled team provides critical care at the scene, interventions that can mean the difference between life and death. As a local charity, they rely heavily on public support, needing to raise over £8,000 each day to sustain their service.

Somme 110 is more than a walk, it is a meaningful act of remembrance and a commitment to helping others. By taking part or supporting this event, you are directly contributing to preserving our shared history and ensuring essential emergency services remain available to those in need.
